Due to recent growth at Fort Worth Country Day, a small college preparatory school in southwest Fort Worth, Bennett Benner Pettit was asked to renovate the original administration building to incorporate eight office spaces, a conference room, restrooms and storage. The design calls for the creation of a new entrance into the campus by walking straight through the entrance of the administration building and into the courtyard, which opens onto the rest of the campus.
Careful emphasis was placed on preserving the exterior of the building, working within the existing footprint, and exposing and restoring the original structure. The original Country Day-blend brick was cleaned and used as the template for additional buildings being built on campus. The interior, influenced by the desire to expose the original existing structure, was renovated to complement the original building’s style and materials. Carpet and vinyl composition tile not original to the project were abated and replaced with eco-friendly finishes. The entire historic exterior was preserved, including existing brick structures and landscaping.
